Almost Ready to Leave for Hungary

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Carol and I are very excited while we complete our packing for Hungary.  We leave on Wednesday, arrive in Budapest on the 15th and take a train to Szeged that evening.  Gary Carter, my crew, should have arrived with the glider by then.

The glider, what a story!  In fact, the whole ordeal for preparing for an international contest is an amazing amount of work with so many details.  My JS1 is just part of the story and I can't thank Leo and the JS factory enough for all their efforts to get the glider from South Africa to England to Spindelburger's in Germany to meet up with it's trailer.  Instruments were shipped and have been sitting in Customs for two week -- grrrrr!  Leo worked hard and got them delivered.

Clothing, insurance (glider, glider in europe, trailer liability, medical, medical repatriation), documents (FAI Stamp, logbooks, new medical, South African Pilot's License, weight and balance, Airworthiness, and so on), travel plans, study the turnpoints, study old flight traces, tool boxes, backup loggers, backup everything, checklists, and on and on and on ...

Yes, all this preparation is finally complete and we are ready to go.
